INSPIRE Parent Sessions
🌟 Working Together to Help Every Child Succeed
At Hurst Hill Primary School, we recognise that children achieve their best when school and families work together. Our INSPIRE Sessions provide valuable opportunities for parents and carers to come into school, experience aspects of their child’s learning and develop a greater understanding of how they can support learning at home.
Our INSPIRE Sessions take place every term and are carefully planned to reflect the current needs of our pupils, the curriculum being taught and the key milestones children are working towards.
🎯 Responding to the Needs of Our Pupils
Our Inspire Sessions are not a 'one size fits all' approach. The focus for each year group is chosen according to the needs of the children and may change throughout the year.
Sessions may focus on areas such as:
- 📚 Reading, phonics and developing a love of books
- ✏️ Writing and spelling
- 🔢 Mathematics and number fluency
- 🏠 Homework and online learning platforms
- ⭐ Attendance and the importance of being in school every day
- 🌱 Early learning, play and developing independence
- 🎯 Preparation for statutory assessments
- 💛 Supporting children's confidence, wellbeing and readiness to learn
Where appropriate, families are given the opportunity to see learning in action, explore the resources and strategies used in school and develop practical ideas that can be used at home.
📝 Supporting Children Through Statutory Assessments
As children progress through school, some INSPIRE Sessions are specifically designed to help parents understand the statutory assessments their children will undertake.
This includes:
- Year 1 – Phonics Screening Check: helping families understand phonics and how they can support children with reading and decoding at home.
- Year 4 – Multiplication Tables Check (MTC): sharing strategies to develop confidence, fluency and rapid recall of multiplication tables.
- Year 6 – National Curriculum Tests (SATs): helping parents understand the assessments, expectations in Year 6 and how homework, reading and regular practice can support their child's preparation.
Our aim is not simply to focus on a test. Instead, we want families to understand the learning and skills that sit behind each assessment and how we can work together to build children's knowledge, confidence and independence.
🤝 Strengthening Our Home-School Partnership
INSPIRE Sessions are also an important opportunity for parents and carers to meet staff, ask questions, see learning taking place and understand what their child is experiencing in school.
By holding sessions every term, we can respond to emerging needs and provide families with relevant information and practical support at the point when it will have the greatest impact.
Together, we can give our children the encouragement, consistency and support they need to thrive.
💛 Thank You to Our Families
We are incredibly grateful to all the parents and carers who attend our INSPIRE Sessions and engage with the learning opportunities we provide.
Your involvement matters. By working in partnership, sharing expectations and supporting learning both at school and at home, we can help every child to make progress, build confidence and achieve their very best.
