🌍📚 The Great Reading Race Around the World at Hurst Hill Primary School 📚🌍
As part of the National Year of Reading, Hurst Hill Primary School is proud to launch an exciting whole‑school challenge: The Great Reading Race Around the World. From tomorrow until October half term, pupils will be taking part in a global reading adventure, discovering how many countries they can “visit” through the books they read.
What Each Class Receives
- World Map Children will colour in every country they visit through stories, information texts and traditional tales from across the globe.
- Reading Passport Each time a class reads a book linked to a particular country, they will add that destination to their passport and record their reading journey.
- Class Leaderboard Classes will track each new destination, helping us celebrate who is travelling the furthest through reading.
Books can be connected to a country in many different ways—through their setting, characters, culture, traditional stories or subject matter. Children might explore Kenya through Handa’s Surprise, Sri Lanka through The Girl Who Stole an Elephant, or journey across continents with Around the World in Eighty Days.
Celebrating Reading, Culture and Curiosity
This whole‑school challenge aims to inspire children to:
- Develop a love of reading
- Discover new places and cultures
- Broaden their understanding of the world
- Enjoy sharing books together
At the end of the challenge, passports and leaderboards will be collected, countries counted and our Great Reading Race Champions will be celebrated.
