Welcome to Hurst Hill Primary School

Where Children Flourish, Dreams Grow and Every Child Belongs

Choosing the right primary school is one of the most important decisions you will ever make for your child. At Hurst Hill Primary School, we believe every child deserves more than just an education; they deserve to be inspired, challenged, nurtured and celebrated every single day. From the moment you walk through our doors, you will discover a school built upon warmth, ambition, care and community, where children are encouraged to become confident learners, kind friends and successful citizens of the future. With around 240 pupils, a welcoming pre-school provision and a bright, engaging learning environment, Hurst Hill offers all the advantages of a close-knit family school whilst providing children with exceptional opportunities to learn, grow and succeed.

At the heart of our school are relationships. We know every child as an individual, recognising their strengths, supporting them through challenges and celebrating every achievement along the way. Many of our families have a long-standing connection with Hurst Hill, with former pupils now returning as parents to start the next generation of their family's journey with us. This sense of belonging creates something truly special: a school community where children feel safe, valued and proud to be part of something bigger than themselves. The most recent Ofsted inspection recognised this welcoming culture, stating that, "Pupils are happy and feel safe at this welcoming school," and that children arrive each morning to "friendly greetings from staff who know them well."

An Inspiring Curriculum That Brings Learning to Life

At Hurst Hill, learning is exciting, ambitious and meaningful. Our curriculum has been carefully designed to ensure every child develops the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for their next stage of education while fostering curiosity about the world around them. Inspectors praised the school for having an "ambitious, broad and balanced curriculum" and highlighted how leaders have adapted learning to meet the needs of the local community.

Whether children are exploring ancient civilisations, designing innovative projects, developing their computing skills, becoming enthusiastic readers or mastering mathematical concepts, our curriculum encourages children to ask questions, think deeply and embrace challenges. Learning does not stop at the classroom door. Through educational visits, visitors, clubs, performances, sporting opportunities and enrichment activities, children experience a curriculum that broadens horizons and creates lasting memories. Ofsted noted that pupils enjoy a "range of wider experiences, including clubs, visits and leadership roles" which help them develop new interests and aspirations.

A Strong Foundation from the Very Beginning

The early years at Hurst Hill provide children with an exceptional start to their educational journey. Our nurturing Nursery and Reception classes are carefully designed to help children develop confidence, independence and a love of learning from day one.

Inspectors highlighted that "Children get off to a positive start in the early years" and recognised how staff establish, "clear routines that help children feel safe and secure." They also praised the school's strong focus on communication, language development and early reading, noting that children benefit from "warm, nurturing relationships" and a curriculum that effectively supports progress across all areas of learning.

For parents, this means knowing your child will be cared for, encouraged and supported by skilled professionals who understand how young children learn best.

A School Where Every Child Matters

One of our greatest strengths is our commitment to inclusion. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of need, background or circumstance. Our staff work tirelessly to ensure that every pupil receives the support they need to succeed academically, socially and emotionally.

Ofsted recognised that leaders have "created an inclusive culture in which all pupils are known well and valued" and praised the school's commitment to supporting children with SEND and other additional needs. Inspectors also noted that staff adapt learning effectively so pupils can learn successfully alongside their peers.

Families can be confident that their children will be seen, heard and understood. At Hurst Hill, individuality is celebrated and differences are embraced.

A Safe, Caring and Happy Environment

Nothing is more important than the safety and wellbeing of our children. Parents want reassurance that their child will be safe, supported and happy, and this is an area where Hurst Hill excels.

The latest inspection confirmed that safeguarding standards are fully met and identified an "open culture in which safeguarding is everyone's responsibility." Inspectors found that pupils feel safe, trust adults and know who to turn to if they need help. They also reported that "bullying is rare" and that staff deal with concerns "quickly, consistently and fairly."

Our school values promote kindness, respect, responsibility and resilience, helping children develop into considerate young people who care about themselves and others.

Developing Character, Confidence and Future Aspirations

Education is about much more than academic success. We are passionate about helping children become well-rounded individuals who are prepared for life beyond primary school.

Through leadership opportunities, personal development programmes, educational visits, sport, creative arts and enrichment experiences, children develop confidence, resilience and independence. Inspectors praised the school's personal development provision, noting that pupils learn about healthy relationships, keeping themselves safe, managing risks online, financial education and future careers through the school's Skills Builder programme. They also highlighted how pupils develop "resilience, confidence and a strong sense of belonging."

Children at Hurst Hill are encouraged to have a voice, take responsibility and make a positive contribution to their community.
